New immunoglobulin for post-liver transplant patients with hepatitis B – 05/28/2010

A new self-administered immunoglobulin can improve the quality of life of post-liver transplant patients with hepatitis B. The study was presented in Naples at the 2nd National Congress of the Italian Society for Safety and Quality in Transplants (SISQT) and envisages the subcutaneous administration of immunoglobulin which prevents re-infection from hepatitis B. The treatment starts straight after the transplant and, once trained, the patient can carry on the therapy by self-administering a weekly subcutaneous injection. In this way there is no need to turn to a hospital or to a nurse for intravenous or intramuscular injections.
